S.J. Maylee

S. J. Maylee fell in love with storytelling at a young age and with it came a deep-seated desire for everyone to find their happily ever after. She’s finding the happy endings for her characters one steamy story at a time. When she’s not reading or writing, you can find her caring for her garden, laughing with her two young sons, or dancing to her husband’s music. She’s a PMP (Project Management Professional), Nia instructor, and coffee addict. As a writer she has a tendency to break hearts, but she always glues them back together.

Werewolves Be Damned (Magic & Mayhem, #1) - Stacey Kennedy Werewolves Be Damned by Stacey Kennedy is the first book in the Magic & Mayhem series. This story starts in a big way. In fact, there is no slow pacing anywhere in this book. The heroine is Nexi and she's filled with sadness, attitude, and revenge. It makes for a wicked combination. There really is no telling what Nexi's going to say or do, lol. The hero is Kyden and he's the grand mixture of caveman (according to Nexi), romantic, and loyal protector. Yum.

The story starts with page turning action, tragedy for Nexi's human family and a realization that turns her world upside down. Nexi's mom was a witch and her dad's a half guardian or warrior.

Her biological family takes her in and she's assigned a trainer, Kyden. She's a natural at the guardian training, but what about her magic? Nexi makes this comment, "Rewind there, Daddy. You said I have magical powers, so what's the big deal? I'll voodoo some shit up, bring out my spidey-senses, and bam." <-That's Nexi. You'll have to read the story to find out if Nexi's magic shows up.
There is a lot for Nexi to process in this story and she takes it all on. It's impressive and empowering. There's a bit of mystery and whole lot of magic and mayhem ;) Here's a Nexi thought: A couple months ago, her biggest problem had been a bad hair day. Now, she had a bulls-eye on her back with a vampire hunting her. <-Eek, right. Now there's a change in reality, but Nexi is up for it.
Stacey did a fabulous job of weaving this story together and pulling at my heart strings. In the midst of all the action there's terrible loss and a love story too, which brings all kinds of steamy sexual tension.

There's a lot to love here, all kinds of family dynamics, challenges, and revenge. I'm looking forward to reading the next in this series and highly recommend it to paranormal romance readers.

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest and fair review.
